Janus Estates 1 - Abitare Design Studio

The Janus Estates project presented an exceptional opportunity to bring the past and the future together with one home rooted in history and the other entirely new construction. The following describes our work on the new construction home which included extensive coordination for the interiors. The original 3-story historic home has its own description pertaining to its unique scope.

Our approach to the new construction home was to blend urban style with modern functionality while creating intimate living spaces, finishing with high-end materials for a truly contemporary home that will age with grace. The facade emulates a historic feel with the predominant use of brick while also incorporating large expanses of glass and modern metal panels to create unique curb appeal. The ground floor consists of a 2-car garage and open foyer that steps down to the family room/den featuring a coffered box beam ceiling. Moving up to the 2ND floor, the open living and dining rooms are drenched in natural light from large expanses of glass and fully glazed doors leading to a terrace. The spacious gourmet kitchen has all the finest appliances set into custom Italian cabinetry in neutral warm gray and natural wood tones, including a waterfall edge of the stone countertops.

The 3RD level includes 2 bedrooms, one with an en-suite bath, a 2ND full bath, and laundry room. Brazilian Ash hardwood flooring was selected throughout.

The 4TH floor comprises the Master Suite with a coffered cove ceiling, walk-in closet, and private terrace. The master bath is an opulent display of light and dark contrasts. Large format Calacatta Gold Marble adorns the floor and wall, complimenting the stately mahogany double vanity in a warm white with black granite counter. The freestanding white soaking tub is distinguished against polished Italian Porcelain tiles in a deep charcoal. Nero Marquina Marble and Glass Element tile continue the bold yet complimentary contrast in the spacious shower.

Last but not least, the building continues up to the pilothouse with a custom wet bar including a beverage center and bar sink that leads out to the enormous roof deck with panoramic views of Philadelphia.
